ABOUT THIS DENIM //
This is a 13.5oz sanforized unsinged super slub, which feels like loomstate denim. Loomstate denim is a term used to describe denim that has come straight off the loom and has not gone through the multiple processes that modern denim goes through to achieve a more stabilized fabric that won’t shrink, twist or look hairy. We love all the qualities and characteristics that come with unfinished denim, but we wanted to bring it to you without the guesswork that is involved with unsanforized denim. So we sent the denim through skewing and sanforization. The result is a raw denim that looks and feels like loomstate denim, but it is sanforized!
The shuttle looms being used to weave this denim are “Toyota G Type 3” which are known to be some of the oldest shuttle looms still being used today. The special character that is inherent of using this old loom is its loose tension on the warp yarns. When the denim is woven, the loom creates a unique bumpy/slub surface with tons of character.
Furthermore, the machines require extra attention and adjustments when weaving, and they are only operated by the most experienced denim veterans in Okayama.
